First in this Country Music Mystery.
Charlie Plato, a 30 year old divorced woman lives over CHAPS (a Country-Western bar/club near San Francisco, CA) with her pet rabbit Benny. She keeps watch on the bar below and part owns it along with 3 other partners: Zack a former TV star, Savanna, and Angel.

After an earth quake Charlie finds a skeleton foot buried in the flowers. Her and Zack then report their find to the police detective Taylor Bristow.
They learn after the body is exhumed that it is a malnourished older male with missing false teeth.

Soon after this discovery Charlie starts to receive threatening phone calls asking about $5000.00 that belongs to the caller and that Charlie is not to go to the police, but to find and give back that money within 1 month or she will be killed.

Since the police don't seem to be giving this case much interest Charlie goes to Zack with her worries and he helps her try to figure out who the man is and who he owed money to.

If you're not a country music fan you'll still love the story! It does not really center around the music itself, but the story is just mesmerizing and I couldn't put it down!
